Settlement accounts

A settlement account is the account where your payments settle in a clearing system. Every scheme you are connected to has its own settlement account, and each clearing system uses its own name for it:
For backward compatibility, the API exposes settlement accounts under the /v1/nostro-accounts paths and uses nostro in field names. The dashboard and this documentation call them settlement accounts.

What you can do

Operational and safeguarding accounts

Withdrawals and EKS transfers use two kinds of bank accounts that you register once, in the dashboard under Settings > Liquidity or through the bank accounts API:
  • Operational account - an IBAN under one of your own BICs that is used as the debtor of the outgoing payment. It identifies you as the sender; the funds are always taken from the settlement account of the scheme the payment is sent on.
  • Safeguarding account - the account a withdrawal is paid to, for example your safeguarding account at a credit institution. Withdrawals can only be paid to registered safeguarding accounts.
EKS participants: before you can transfer between your EKS settlement accounts, the operational account must also be registered with Latvijas Banka in your EKS registration forms (fields 1.3.1 and 1.5.1), and EKS transfers must be enabled for your BIC. See Transfers between settlement accounts.

Transfer lifecycle

Every transfer has one of these statuses, in this order: The transfer amount is never signed: a transfer moves money from one of your accounts to another. Each account’s movement appears separately, as an adjustment or payment transaction linked to the transfer (adjustmentTransactionIds, paymentTransactionId).

Permissions

If 4-eyes signing is enabled for your organisation, payments created by withdrawals and EKS transfers go through the same signing flow as any other payment.
